The New York Rangers began the Stanley Cup playoffs with seven straight victories but now face a critical Game 6 against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night in Raleigh, N.C.
The Rangers, leading 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, have twice allowed the Hurricanes to stave off elimination, losing 4-3 in Game 4 and 4-1 in Game 5.
Coach Peter Laviolette emphasized the need for increased desperation as the series progresses. Carolina, led by coach Rod Brind’Amour, has found momentum with Evgeny Kuznetsov scoring key goals in the past two games.
Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox need to improve for the Rangers, while Filip Chytil’s return remains uncertain.
Carolina’s Brett Pesce is unlikely to play due to a lower-body injury. Kuznetsov expects a fierce battle in Game 6.
