THE RUB

The Florida Panthers dominated the New York Rangers in most statistical categories in Game 3, except for goaltending and defensive mistakes. These issues are why the Panthers hope to even up the Eastern Conference Final series in Game 4 on Tuesday night in Sunrise, Fla., while the Rangers aim for a 3-1 lead.

If the Rangers win again, they can clinch the series at home in Game 5 on Thursday. If the Panthers win, they assure themselves of hosting Game 6 on Saturday night.

Florida opened the series with a 3-0 victory in New York, but the Rangers rebounded with two overtime wins, thanks largely to Igor Shesterkin, who has a 2.33 goals-against average in the postseason and has stopped 83 of 90 shots in the series.

New York’s 5-4 win on Sunday came from Alex Wennberg’s overtime goal, deflecting a Ryan Lindgren shot. Despite Florida outshooting the Rangers 37-23 and scoring twice on six power plays, they allowed five goals for the third time in the postseason.

Florida’s Sam Reinhart scored two power play goals, but defensive lapses allowed New York’s Alexis Lafreniere and Barclay Goodrow to score twice each. Lafreniere scored on a breakaway and an end-to-end rush, while Goodrow netted a deflection and a short-handed goal.

The Rangers lead the series without significant contributions from Mika Zibanejad, Artemi Panarin, and Chris Kreider, highlighting their depth and resilience.

PLAYER TRENDS

  • Mika Zibanejad has 1+ assists in 7 of the Rangers’ last 8 road games.
  • Aleksander Barkov has 1+ assists in 8 of the Panthers’ last 10 home games.
  • Barclay Goodrow has scored in each of the Rangers’ last 3 road games.
  • Alexis Lafreniere has scored in 3 of the Rangers’ last 4 road games.
  • Carter Verhaeghe has scored in 3 of the Panthers’ last 4 vs. Rangers.
