THE RUB

The Eastern Conference Final is now tied at 2-2, with a best-of-three series starting Thursday night when the New York Rangers host the Florida Panthers in Game 5. The winner of Thursday’s game will have a chance to clinch the series on Saturday in Sunrise, Fla.

In Game 4, the Panthers secured a 3-2 victory with Sam Reinhart scoring his third power-play goal of the series just 72 seconds into overtime. This came after captain Aleksander Barkov drew a hooking penalty on Blake Wheeler at the start of OT.

The Rangers dominated the first period but settled for one goal. Sam Bennett tied the game in the second period, followed by Carter Verhaeghe’s power-play goal. The Panthers, with four power-play goals in the previous two games, are now 5-for-12 on the man advantage since going 0-for-3 in their series-opening win.

Florida outshot the Rangers 40-23 in Game 4 and holds a 131-100 shot advantage in the series. New York’s two wins came from overtime goals by Barclay Goodrow and Alex Wennberg, supported by stellar goaltending from Igor Shesterkin.

Despite Alexis Lafreniere’s tying goal early in the third period and Vincent Trocheck’s contribution, the Rangers struggled offensively. Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider remain scoreless in the series.
