THE RUB
The Edmonton Oilers took home-ice advantage from the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference finals and aim to keep it when they host Game 3 on Monday. The series is tied 1-1.
“We’re back in our barn. It’s going to be exciting,” said defenseman Mattias Ekholm. “We … got our split and we feel good about that, but now it’s time to raise our level.”
Edmonton won the series opener 3-2 in double overtime, but Dallas evened it with a 3-1 win on Saturday. The Oilers dominated the first period, outshooting Dallas 16-4 but couldn’t gain a lead. Mason Marchment broke the 1-1 tie in the third period, and Edmonton managed only four shots on net afterward.
“They just got one more bounce than us,” forward Connor Brown said. Edmonton has killed 20 consecutive penalties and boasts a 4-2 home record.
Dallas has a strong 5-1 road record. Goaltender Jake Oettinger highlighted the team’s defensive efforts against Edmonton’s stars, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who were held scoreless in the last game.
Coach Peter DeBoer expects top-line center Roope Hintz to play in at least one of the next two games. The Oilers anticipate forward Adam Henrique’s return soon.
