PREVIEW

Game 3 of the World Series shifts to Yankee Stadium on Monday night, with the Los Dodgers holding a 2-0 lead over the Yankees.

The Dodgers will start Walker Buehler (5.38 ERA) as they aim to inch closer to a championship, while the Yankees counter with Clarke Schmidt (2.85 ERA) in hopes of keeping the series alive.

The Dodgers executed their plan perfectly at home, winning Game 1 in thrilling fashion with a Freddie Freeman walk-off grand slam and securing Game 2 with a 4-2 victory behind a big outing from Yamamoto. Freeman has been awesome, recording two homers, a triple, and five RBIs, establishing himself as the World Series MVP favorite.

Shohei Ohtani suffered a minor shoulder injury in Game 2, though early reports from manager Dave Roberts remain optimistic. Despite injuries to the rotation, Buehler is tasked with stabilizing the Dodgers’ three-man rotation. While his 5.38 regular-season ERA is not great, he showed flashes of brilliance in a playoff outing against the Mets, throwing four scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

The Yankees return home needing their stars to deliver. Aaron Judge has struggled, going 1-for-9 with six strikeouts in the first two games, raising concerns among fans. Bright lights for the Yanks, Giancarlo Stanton and Soto have each homered, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. has contributed three hits.

Clarke Schmidt takes the mound, boasting a solid 2.85 regular-season ERA and a 3.86 postseason ERA. Schmidt will need to keep the Dodgers’ potent lineup in check, as the Yankees look to rely on their top hitters—Torres, Soto, Judge, and Stanton—to spark a rally in the Bronx.

OUR SAY

The Dodgers enter Game 3 with some swagger but are taking a risk with Buehler, their weakest starter remaining. Injuries have depleted the pitching staff, forcing Buehler into the rotation despite his struggles. He posted a 5.38 ERA during the regular season, which has climbed to 6.00 in the playoffs. Buehler’s lone bright spot came with a nice outing against the Mets, but he was shelled by the Padres for six runs over five innings in an earlier start.
