PREVIEW
The Dodgers look to close out the World Series with a sweep as they take on the Yankees in Game 4 at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.
Los Angeles has controlled the series from the start, taking the first two games at home and continuing with a 4-2 win in Game 3 on Monday. Freddie Freeman has been a force, hitting a home run in five straight World Series games, while Walker Buehler added five strong innings to move the Dodgers within one win of the title.
The Dodgers will opt for a bullpen game, marking the fourth time this postseason they’ve employed this strategy. Thus far, they’re 2-1 in bullpen games, showcasing depth despite the challenges. Ryan Brasier and Michael Kopech have been among the key contributors, with the Dodgers doing a good job of limiting their pitchers’ workloads throughout the playoffs.
The Yankees find themselves on the brink of a sweep after a poor outing in Game 3. Despite returning to Yankee Stadium, the top of their lineup—Gleyber Torres, Juan Soto, and Aaron Judge—combined to go 0-for-9, with the offense only managing a two-run homer from Alex Verdugo in the 9th inning.
The Yankees now pin their hopes on righty Luis Gil, who finished the regular season 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA but has seen limited postseason action. Gil’s lone playoff start came against Cleveland in the ALCS, where he allowed two runs over four innings. He also faced the Dodgers once during the regular season, giving up three runs across 5.2 innings. If the Yankees are to extend the series, they’ll need Gil to deliver and their star-studded lineup to break out of its slump.
