PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES @ CHICAGO CUBS

The Cubs (80-76) and Phillies (92-63) kick off a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

The Cubs send in Nate Pearson, who has found it tough this month with a 4.70 ERA. Pearson, used as both a reliever and opener, has posted a 4.71 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP this season. The Cubs, still hoping for a winning record, face a Phillies team aiming to grab the best record in the majors.

Philadelphia counter with Aaron Nola, coming off a nice outing against the Brewers where he allowed just one run over seven innings. Nola has a 12-8 record with a 3.54 ERA this season but has been up and down, including a 5.32 ERA in September. Historically, Nola has a 6-2 record against the Cubs but has struggled with a 4.69 ERA in 55.2 innings.

The Phillies, led by slugger Nick Castellanos, who has 22 home runs and 84 RBIs, rank fourth in runs scored (4.87 per game).

The Cubs are averaging 4.57 runs per game and rank 10th in team ERA at 3.82. The Phillies hold a 2-1 edge in the season series.

SEATTLE MARINERS @ HOUSTON ASTROS

A key AL West series kicks off Monday as the Seattle Mariners (80-75, 2nd AL West) face the division-leading Houston Astros (85-70, 1st AL West) at Minute Maid Park.

Seattle is just 1.5 games out of the last remaining Wild Card spot and took the first two games against Texas in their last series, while Houston has already won three against the Angels. Seattle leads the season series 6-4 over Houston.

Seattle’s Bryce Miller (3.06 ERA) takes the mound. Despite an 11-8 record, the Mariners have lost three of his last four starts. Houston sends in with Hunter Brown (3.57 ERA), who is also 11-8, and the Astros have gone 2-3 in his last five starts.

With the Mariners still in the Wild Card hunt and the Astros close to clinching a division title, this series will have some big postseason implications for both teams.
