TONIGHT’S MLB PICK
CLEVELAND GUARDIANS @ DEROIT TIGERS
Detroit secured a big win in Game 3, marking their first playoff home win since 2014, and now they have a chance to close out the series.
With Tanner Bibee on the mound for Cleveland, who holds a 1-3 record with a 5.28 ERA against Detroit, the Tigers’ bats will be frothing at the mouth for another outing. Given Detroit’s current form and the energy from their home crowd, an early lead could prove too much for the Guardians to overcome.
Reese Olson, who was effective in game one by holding Cleveland to one run over five innings, will likely pitch a few innings before handing it over to a bullpen that has been excellent throughout the series. However, Cleveland’s inability to create offense on Wednesday gives little reason to believe they can extend the series.
With Detroit firing on all cylinders, the Tigers are a strong bet to win on the ML and advance.
NEW YORK YANKEES @ KANSAS CITY ROYALS
The Yankees aim to close out the series on Thursday as they face the Royals in Game 4 of the ALDS.
With a 2-1 lead after a 3-2 victory in Game 3, the Yankees are riding high, thanks to a clutch solo home run from Giancarlo Stanton in the eighth inning and a big game from their bullpen, which threw 4 ⅓ innings of no-hit relief.
Gerrit Cole will take the mound for New York, aiming to repeat his nice postseason performance in Game 1. Although Aaron Judge has struggled, hitting just .091 in the series, Stanton and Gleyber Torres have provided the needed power at key moments.
The Royals will turn to Michael Wacha to keep their postseason hopes alive. Wacha struggled in Game 1, allowing three runs in four innings, but the Royals will need more from him to force a decisive Game 5. Kansas City’s offense has been inconsistent, with Salvador Perez and MJ Melendez providing some pop, but Bobby Witt Jr. and others have underperformed at the plate.
Despite solid pitching from Seth Lugo in Game 3, the Royals’ bullpen faltered, and their struggles at home have been costly. Expect another close battle, but with Cole on the mound and the Yankees’ bullpen in top form, New York is poised to edge out a 4-3 win and advance to the next round.
