TONIGHT’S MLB PICKS & PARLAYS

DETROIT TIGERS @ HOUSTON ASTROS

The AL Wild Card series kicks off on Tuesday at Minute Maid Park, with the Tigers visiting the Astros.

The Astros are favs at -135 on the moneyline, with the game total is set at 6.5 runs.

Detroit send out Tarik Skubal, who finished the season on a hot streak, claiming their first playoff spot since 2014. Skubal was a force this year, winning the AL pitching Triple Crown with 18 wins, a 2.39 ERA, and 228 strikeouts. He was lights out in the second half of the season and will look to carry that into this one.

Houston’s Framber Valdez takes the mound after another good year. The Astros have been one of the most well-rounded teams in baseball, ranking near the top in both offensive and pitching categories. Valdez has excelled at home, posting a 9-2 record with a 2.53 ERA, and will be a tough matchup for Detroit.

The Astros will look to make the best of their strong finish to the season as they chase another deep playoff run.

KANSAS CITY ROYALS @ BALTIMORE ORIOLES

The Royals and Orioles face off in the opening game of the American League Wildcard round in Baltimore.

The Orioles play host to all three potential games as the higher seed after finishing the regular season with a 91-71 record.

Kansas City are coming off a big turnaround from a 100-loss season in 2023 to an 86-76 record this year, and secured a wildcard spot after placing third in the AL Central.

The pitching matchup features Royals’ left-hander Cole Ragans (11-9, 3.14 ERA) against Orioles’ ace Corbin Burnes (15-9, 2.92 ERA), with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 PM EST.

Kansas City will rely on Ragans, who has been their top pitcher since arriving via trade last season. He posted 21 quality starts this year with a 3.14 ERA and 223 strikeouts over 186 innings. Baltimore counters with Burnes, who they acquired to lead the rotation in playoff games like this.

Burnes delivered a 2.92 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, striking out 181 batters in 194.1 innings. He has faced Kansas City twice this season, going 1-0 with a 3.97 ERA across 11.1 innings.
