The Baltimore Orioles open a four-game road series against AL East rival Tampa Bay on Monday, coming off a narrow 6-5 win over the Angels. Despite winning three of their last four, the Orioles are still buried in the standings – 13 games off the division lead—and are dealing with heavy injury losses, including 11 pitchers and key bats like Ryan Mountcastle and Jorge Mateo.
Offensively, they’re in the bottom third across most categories, averaging just 3.9 runs per game. Zack Eflin (6-2, 4.08 ERA) gets the start in a staff that ranks 26th in ERA and 27th in BAA.
Tampa Bay enters Monday on a roll, having won four of its last six to pull within 4.5 games of first in the division. The Rays are mid-pack at the plate but elite on the mound, ranking 2nd in quality starts and 3rd in WHIP. Junior Caminero leads the offense with 16 homers and 42 RBIs, while Ryan Pepiot (3-6, 3.31 ERA) looks to bounce back after a tough-luck stretch despite leading the club with 73 strikeouts.
Baltimore’s depleted roster and struggling pitching make this a tough spot, but we think they’ll get the chocolates tonight.
