TONIGHT’S MLB PICKS & PARLAYS

DETROIT TIGERS @ CLEVELAND GUARDIANS

The Tigers meet the Cleveland Guardians in Game 1 of the ALDS on Saturday at Progressive Field, with the first pitch set for 1:08 p.m. ET.

The Guardians earned a bye after finishing the regular season 92-69 and winning the AL Central, are -145 moneyline favorites, while the game total is set at seven runs. Detroit enters this series after sweeping Houston in the Wild Card round and is making its first postseason appearance since 2014.

Cleveland have been a forece at home with a 50-30 record this season, and will start right-hander Tanner Bibee (12-8, 3.47 ERA).

Detroit, riding high after their Wild Card upset, is expected to rely on their bullpen, which has been great with a 3.55 ERA this season. Detroit’s gritty play, especially in its comeback against Houston, makes this series a tough challenge for Cleveland, despite their regular-season success against the Tigers.

Detroit’s timely hitting, combined with Cleveland’s offensive struggles, makes a Tigers’ win in Game 1 a strong possibility. The “Gritty Tigers” moniker fits well, and they’re well-positioned to upset the Guardians in this one.

BEST PICK – DETROIT ML

SAN DIEGO PADRES @ LA DODGERS

The Padres and Dodgers kick off the NLDS with two elite pitchers on the mound.

San Diego’s Dylan Cease has been steady all season, posting a 3.47 ERA and solid numbers against the Dodgers. With the Padres sweeping the Braves in the Wildcard round, confidence is high as Fernando Tatis Jr. and Kyle Higashioka continue to produce at the plate. The Padres also proved they can hold their own against the Dodgers during the regular season, winning the season series.

The Dodgers counter with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a highly touted rookie who has had a strong season with a 3.00 ERA. While he struggled against the Padres earlier this year, his overall performance has been solid.

The Dodgers’ offense, led by Shohei Ohtani, remains one of the most dangerous in the league, averaging 5.20 runs per game. With both teams strong on the mound and at the plate, this game sets the tone for an exciting series.

The Padres are riding high after sweeping the Braves, while the Dodgers face the challenge of shaking off rust after nearly a week without play.

San Diego’s 8-5 record against Los Angeles in the regular season adds to their confidence. Dodgers’ rookie pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto struggled against San Diego, surrendering eight runs in six innings, and will be making his MLB postseason debut under pressure.
