TONIGHT’S MLB PICK

LOS ANGELES DODGERS @ NEW YORK METS

The Dodgers will look to clinch a World Series berth on Friday afternoon as they face the Mets at Citi Field.

Despite a rotation plagued by injuries, the Dodgers have stifled the Mets’ offense, holding them to just two runs across three wins in the series. In their 10-2 victory on Thursday, Shohei Ohtani opened the game with a solo home run and crossed the plate four times, providing the spark Los Angeles needed to push New York to the brink of elimination.

Jack Flaherty (13-7, 3.17 ERA) gets the call for the Dodgers in Game 5. Flaherty was great in Game 1, tossing seven shutout innings and striking out six to power the Dodgers to a 9-0 win. His steadiness on the mound will play a big part as Los Angeles looks to close out the series.

The Mets, who have boasted the best record in the league since June 1st, are now hours away from possibly booking their holidays. New York dropped Game 4 after going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and leaving 12 men on base.

Jose Quintana struggled, allowing five runs in just over three innings. Manager Carlos Mendoza has yet to announce a Game 5 starter as the Mets aim to extend the series. Despite ranking eighth in postseason ERA (3.70), New York’s pitching staff has been plagued by walks, issuing 30 free passes and surrendering 12 home runs in 87+ playoff innings.

NEW YORK YANKEES @ CLEVELAND GUARDIANS

The Yankees and Guardians prepare for Game 4 of the ALCS on Friday night with the Yankees leading the series 2-1.

After taking the first two games at Yankee Stadium, New York seemed poised to take a 3-0 stranglehold on the series in Game 3. However, Cleveland staged a late-game comeback, overcoming a two-run deficit with a 9th-inning home run from Jhonkensy Noel to force extra innings. David Fry then sealed the W for the Guardians with a two-run homer in the 10th to claim a 7-5 win and keep their hopes alive.

The Yankees will turn to right-hander Luis Gil, who finished the regular season with a 15-7 record and 3.50 ERA. Gil, making his first postseason start, hasn’t pitched in over two weeks, so it remains to be seen how deep he can go. Gil struggled in his lone appearance against Cleveland this year, giving up three runs and walking six batters over just three innings.

Cleveland counters with Ben Lively, filling in for the injured Alex Cobb. Lively has been steady this season with a 3.81 ERA and 13-10 record. At home, Lively has been even better, posting an 8-3 record with a 3.70 ERA, and the Guardians will rely on him to deliver another strong outing.
