TONIGHT’S BEST MLB PICKS
MINNESOTA TWINS @ TAMPA BAY RAYS
The Minnesota Twins will face the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday at Tropicana Field, with the first pitch set for 1:10 p.m. ET. Minnesota (75-63) sends right-hander Pablo López to the mound, who boasts a 13-8 record with a 4.05 ERA in 27 starts this season. Tampa Bay (68-70) counters with righty Taj Bradley, who holds a 6-9 record with a 4.35 ERA in 20 starts.
The Twins are in the thick of the AL Central race, just 4.5 games behind the division lead, and have gone 36-32 on the road.
Offensively, Minnesota ranks 8th in OBP and 9th in home runs, but injuries to key players Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton could be a factor. Pablo López has been strong in the second half of the season, posting a 5-1 record, and will look to keep the Twins in the postseason hunt.
Tampa Bay, despite being below .500 at home, remains competitive, especially in close games. Taj Bradley has struggled lately, giving up eight runs in his last start, but will aim to rebound as the Rays hope to finish the season on a high note.
BEST PICK – MINNESOTA ML
DETROIT TIGERS @ SAN DIEGO PADRES
The Detroit Tigers will face the San Diego Padres in a crucial matchup as both teams aim to secure postseason positions.
The Tigers, with a 70-69 record, are making a late-season push, winning seven of their last 10 games and staying within striking distance of an American League Wild Card spot.
Casey Mize will take the mound for Detroit, but he’s had a challenging season, giving up 46 runs over 84.2 innings, with opponents hitting .283 against him. Despite these struggles, Detroit’s lineup has been inconsistent, averaging 4.19 runs per game, with Riley Greene and Matt Vierling leading the charge offensively, though the lineup lacks depth.
The Padres, with a strong 79-61 record, are pushing to catch the Dodgers in the NL West. Martin Perez will start for San Diego, hoping to rebound after allowing 63 runs in 114.2 innings this season.
While Perez has struggled, the Padres’ offense has been solid, scoring 4.76 runs per game. Jurickson Profar, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Jackson Merrill have anchored a potent lineup, making San Diego a formidable opponent.
