The Royals (79-65, 2nd in AL Central) and Yankees (82-61, 1st in AL East) continue their 3-game series at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Royals are vying for playoff positioning, behind the Guardians by 2.5 games in the AL Central and holding a 2.5-game lead in the Wild Card race. Kansas City has won four straight, including a sweep of the Twins.
Seth Lugo (15-8, 3.05 ERA) will take the mound for Kansas after allowing just one earned run in his last start.
The Yankees, battling with the Orioles for the AL East crown, missed a sweep of the Cubs in their previous series. Marcus Stroman (10-7, 4.03 ERA) starts for New York, looking to bounce back after giving up five earned runs in his last outing.
Aaron Judge and Bobby Witt Jr. are both MVP candidates, with Judge smashing 51 home runs and Witt leading the majors with a .336 batting average.

The Angels meet the Twins for the second game of a three-game series tonight.
The Angels are in the middle of a rough patch, having lost 4 of their last 6 games, including a 7-4 defeat to the Rangers on Sunday. Leading into Monday, the Angels were 59-84, sitting in last place in the AL West and well out of playoff contention. Griffin Canning will take the mound for the Angels, with a 5-12 record and a 5.02 ERA in 28 starts this season. He’s coming off a solid outing against the Dodgers, where he threw 6.2 innings of one-run ball.
The Twins are fighting to hold their playoff position.
After a sweep by the Royals, Minnesota stands at 76-67, holding the final AL Wild Card spot. Pablo Lopez will start for the Twins, carrying a 14-8 record and a 4.05 ERA. Lopez has been sharp recently, winning his last three starts with a 1.27 ERA.
