TONIGHT’S BEST MLB PICKS

PITTSBURGH PIRATES @ CLEVELAND GUARDIANS

The Pittsburgh Pirates (62-71) face the Cleveland Guardians (76-58) in the second game of a three-game interleague series. The Pirates have been struggling, recently being swept by the Chicago Cubs and losing four of their last five games. They are far behind in both the NL Central and the wildcard race.

Meanwhile, Cleveland managed to avoid a sweep by Kansas City with a 7-5 win but has also lost six of their last nine games. Both teams are dealing with numerous injuries, with Pittsburgh missing key players like Ke’Bryan Hayes and Andrew McCutchen, and Cleveland missing seven pitchers.

Offensively, the Pirates rank poorly in runs scored, batting average, and slugging percentage, despite some power from Bryan Reynolds. On the mound, Pittsburgh is 5th in quality starts, with Mitch Keller leading the team in wins and strikeouts.

Luis Ortiz will start for the Pirates on Saturday. Cleveland’s offense is middle-of-the-road, led by Jose Ramirez, but their pitching staff ranks highly in ERA and WHIP. Matthew Boyd will start for the Guardians.

BEST PICK – OVER 8.5 TOTAL RUNS

LA DODGERS @ ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks continue their four-game series on Saturday night at Chase Field. The Dodgers (80-54) hold a narrow lead in the NL West, but the Diamondbacks (76-58) are hot on their heels, just four games behind. Arizona has a slight edge in the season series, leading 5-4. With September fast approaching, this series is crucial for both teams’ playoff aspirations.

Arizona is banking on Merrill Kelly to deliver another strong performance on Saturday. Kelly has been dominant at home, boasting a 2.28 ERA at Chase Field and a 2.04 ERA in night games. However, there’s some concern as his ERA has risen to 6.75 since returning from the IL. Arizona’s bullpen has been shaky, ranking 18th in ERA and 21st in FIP, so minimizing their workload will be key.

Offensively, the Diamondbacks are one of the most potent teams in the league, leading MLB with 5.33 runs per game and excelling at home with a .271 batting average. Their power surge and strong plate discipline make them a formidable opponent for the Dodgers.

BEST PICK – OVER 7.5 TOTAL RUNS (ALT TOTAL)
