COLORADO ROCKIES @ KANSAS CITY ROYALS
The Rockies (4-17) and Royals (9-14) meet Wednesday for Game 2 of their three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Both teams avoided being swept in their previous series, with Colorado beating Washington 3-1 and Kansas City edging Detroit 4-3. The Rockies remain 11 games back in the NL West, while the Royals sit five games off the pace in the AL Central. Both clubs are dealing with key injuries, including several pitchers and everyday players.
Colorado has struggled offensively and on the mound. The Rockies rank near the bottom in most major hitting stats, averaging just 3.24 runs per game and hitting .218 as a team. Their pitching hasn’t fared much better, sitting last in WHIP (1.56) and opponent batting average (.284). German Marquez (0-3, 8.27 ERA) will start for Colorado.
On the other side, Kansas City’s offense ranks near the bottom in batting average (.210), slugging (.305), and runs per game (2.91), but their pitching has been solid, ranking 10th in ERA (3.62). Michael Lorenzen (1-3, 4.57 ERA) gets the nod for the Royals.
Bobby Witt Jr. (.307 AVG) continues to lead the Royals at the plate, while Alperen Sengun has been one of Houston’s few consistent hitters. For the Rockies, Brenton Doyle and Mickey Moniak lead the team with three home runs each. Kansas City’s pitching edge may be the difference here, especially with Colorado missing several key bats and arms.

CINCINNATI REDS @ MIAMI MARLINS
The Reds (11-12) and Marlins (10-12) wrap up their three-game series Wednesday in Miami. The Reds dropped the opener 6-3 and have now lost 4 of their last 6, sitting 2.5 games behind first in the NL Central. Miami has won two straight and trails by 5.5 games in the NL East. Both teams are battling injury issues, and Cincinnati is without six pitchers plus Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Tyler Stephenson, while Miami is missing six pitchers and four position players.
Cincinnati has been strong on the mound, ranking 3rd in WHIP (1.08) and opponent batting average (.205), and 6th in ERA (3.41). Brady Singer (3-0, 3.38 ERA) gets the start Wednesday. Offensively, the Reds are 3rd in runs (120) and 9th in OBP (.326), with Elly De La Cruz leading the team in homers (5) and RBI (22). The lineup has totaled 62 extra-base hits in 23 games.
Miami has hit well with a .262 team average (3rd in MLB) and 100 runs scored, but their pitching has struggled—ranking 28th in ERA (4.97) and 27th in WHIP (1.45). Sandy Alcantara (2-1, 7.27 ERA) starts for the Marlins. Matt Mervis leads the team with 6 home runs, while Kyle Stowers tops the RBI chart with 14.
