TONIGHT’S MLB PICKS & PARLAYS
DETROIT TIGERS @ CLEVELAND GUARDIANS
The Tigers will be wanting a stronger start in Game 2 of the ALDS after a 7-0 loss to the Guardians in Game 1.
Falling behind early and struggling with runners in scoring position, the Tigers will look to their ace, Tarik Skubal, to steady the ship.
Skubal, who posted a mouth-watering 2.39 ERA in 2024, has been a key part of Detroit’s success. He was outstanding in his last start, shutting down Houston with six scoreless innings in the Wild Card round. Skubal also has a nice record against Cleveland, striking out 44 batters in eight career appearances. Detroit will need his best to avoid heading home in a 2-0 hole.
The Guardians, on the other hand, will try to keep their swagger going after their commanding Game 1 win. Jumping on Detroit early, Cleveland set the tone with five runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Starting Game 2 for Cleveland is Matthew Boyd, who will be facing his former club. Boyd has been solid this season with a 2.72 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Cleveland’s balanced approach was on full display, and they’ll look to repeat their strong start to keep the pressure on a desperate Tigers squad.
Boyd’s familiarity with Detroit adds an interesting dynamic as the Guardians look to secure a 2-0 series lead.
KANSAS CITY ROYALS @ NEW YORK YANKEES
Kansas City will rely on ace Cole Ragans in Game 2 of the ALDS after a 6-5 loss to the Yankees in the series opener. Ragans has been a revelation since joining Kansas City, posting an impressive 3.14 ERA with 223 strikeouts in 186.1 innings this season.
His road trips have been great, with a 2.87 ERA in 15 starts away from home. Ragans also shined in the wildcard round against Baltimore, pitching six scoreless innings.
Kansas City’s offense, led by Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino, struggled in Game 1, with the trio of Witt, Pasquantino, and Sal Perez going a combined 1-for-14. The Royals will need a better outing from their lineup to avoid an 0-2 hole tonight.
The Yankees send Carlos Rodon to the mound, who has had a very nice season, finishing with a 3.96 ERA and 16 wins, including a 9-2 record at Yankee Stadium where he posted a 3.11 ERA. In two starts against the Royals this season, he allowed just three runs over 13 innings, striking out 12 batters.
