THE RUB

The Dallas Stars are set to host the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of the Western Conference final series on Friday night. The series is tied 2-2 after the Stars surrendered five unanswered goals in a 5-2 loss in Game 4, despite initially leading by two goals.

As the series resumes, it effectively becomes a best-of-three battle to reach the Stanley Cup Final. The Stars aim to reset and refocus. Forward Joe Pavelski emphasized the importance of resetting and understanding the difficulty of the playoffs. Captain Jamie Benn acknowledged the competitive nature of both teams and stressed the need to move on and prepare for the next game.

Dallas defenseman Chris Tanev’s status is uncertain after he left Game 4 with a foot injury. He was seen wearing a walking boot.

The Oilers, meanwhile, aim to build on their comeback victory. Forward Leon Draisaitl highlighted the boost in confidence each win provides. Edmonton’s penalty kill has been flawless, with 23 consecutive successful kills over the past eight games. Coach Kris Knoblauch praised his team’s defensive efforts, particularly in the third period.

Knoblauch’s roster adjustments for Game 4 paid off, with Corey Perry and Ryan McLeod contributing significantly. McLeod’s first-period goal, set up by Perry, sparked the comeback.

The Stars look to rebound and capitalize on home ice, while the Oilers seek to maintain their momentum and take a series lead.
