The NBA Rookie of the Year is awarded to the best young player in the league in a regular season and has been awarded since the 1952-53 season. The MVP trophy is named the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy after legendary former Philadelphia coach.
The Rookie of the Year is voted for by a group of Canadian and US broadcasters and sportswriters, each casting a 5-3-1 vote for each player on a ballot.
Of the history of MVP winners, 21 were drafted #1.
Kyrie Irving, Patrick Ewing, Pau Gasol, Ben Simmons and Luca Doncic are the only ROY winners not born in the USA.
