The NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner is selected by a panel of 124 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the USA and Canada, with each casting a vote for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place selections.
Each 1st-place vote is worth 5 points, 2nd -place voted are worth 3 points, and a 3rd-place vote is worth one. The player with the highest point total wins the award(regardless of 1st Votes).
