The Lakers went down on opening night to the Clippers in disappointing fashion, Miami were also upset in their season-opener against Orlando, with the short break after the NBA Finals clearly having an early effect.
Miami play host to Zion and friends who began the SVG reign with an upset win in Toronto, thanks to a good spread of points across five of their key players all managing 15+ points.
Although we’d expect the Heat to hit back after their poor opening night, there’s not a lot of confidence on our end, especially at the short odds. The total points line looks more appealing.
In the two meetings last season, these teams were not anywhere near the 227.5 points line, with the total points landing on 214 and 203. Even though New Orleans may have a few more offensive options, this game won’t be to high scoring. Van Gundy is known as a defensive minded coach, keeping Toronto to just 99 on their respective opening night.
The New Orleans vs Toronto game only went to a total of 212, while the Heat and Magic finished at 220.

Golden State were awful against the Nets, and if it weren’t for rookie Wiseman providing some spark, there would be even less hope for them tonight.
Steph lacked touch and fitness but it was the role players in Wiggins and Oubre that were the lowlights. Oubre had some some big dunks, but was an awful 3/14 from the field for his 6 points (0/6 from three-point range).
The Bucks went missing in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and were down 17 points at 3/4 time – but came back and managed to fall short by 1-point thanks to a Tatum buzzer beater.
Jrue Holiday meshed well in the Bucks system and with Golden State sans Draymond we can’t factor in the Warriors tonight unless a Steph miracle is on the cards.

Both looked good in their openers, with Brooklyn dominating the Warriors while the Celtics just held on against the Giannis and the Bucks.
Tatum and Brown each had 30+ points for the Celtics, while Irving and Durant were on track to wazx the stats but sat for most of the last quarter as the game was already over.
The Nets second unit looked good led by LeVert, while for Boston, there are question marks as to their depth.
Expect some high scoring here. The Nets are tough to defend and play at a tempo which is difficult to guard. They will also have their hands full defensively with Brown and Tatum, with no noted wing defenders in their rotation.

Dallas had the best offensive rating ever recorded last season, but they started their first game against the Suns in less than spectacular fashion, outrebounded by Phoenix 48-39 on route to a 106-102 loss.
The Lakers remained competitive against the Clippers but never really looked like winning. It really easily have been a 20-point win by Khawi’s men. Frank Vogel gave us an early look at of how the Lakers will approach time restrictions, with LeBron only playing the 28 minutes and Anthony Davis 31.
Dallas has failed to cover four of its last five overall and eight of its last 10 on the road.
The Lakers have the best roster in the league, and despite the occasion it’s hard to see coach Vogel increasing the minutes of LeBron and AD so early in the season.

The Clippers will face their nemisis from last season- it wasn’t too long ago that they blew a 3-1 series lead against Denver and it must surely still sting.
The Clippers opened their season in with a win an impressive win over the Lakers (do any reigning champs win on opening night?), while the Nuggets threw one away at home against the Kings thanks to some late turnovers.
Jokic was great for Denver with a triple-double but tonight with such a big game on coming off an overtime game two days prior is a big ask.
The Clippers scored 116 points in their opening night victory over the Lakers, while Denver scored 122 points in its loss to the Kings. Overs has hit in 15 of Denver’s last 22 played on home court.
PG13, Kawhi and Patrick Beverley have a lot to prove this season and with the Nuggets losing key defensive role players they’re going to have trouble defending the wings of the Clippers.
